Roland Mouret Fashion Show S/S 2004 Case Study

Client:

Roland Mouret

Who they are:

A French womenswear designer based in London.

Duration:September 2003

Objective:

To produce music to accompany the London catwalk shows.

What we did:

Music Concrete received an extremely detailed brief directly from Roland Mouret. The film “Paris Texas” inspired the collection and music was to be one of the key elements signifying this during the show. We used the reference both literally - numerous dialogue and sound effect elements from the original movie sound track - and loosely – assembling a great deal of sound archive material relating to the American South West. During this process it became apparent that the soundtrack would need to be mixed live if it was to accurately “fit” the show. This required the use of 4 CD players and very extensive notes.

Result:

Live mixing of such a complex sound track is a risky strategy. A fashion show is the distillation of 6 months hard work and this show in particular was an extremely expensive production. But when it works, the music can be syncornised with the show choreography in a way that is not possible with pre-recorded music. Roland Mouret’s Spring Summer 2003 show ran flawlessly.
